Medicaid Application Assistance in a Jail Setting: A Case Study of Cook County, IL

Most individuals booked at the Cook County Jail have untreated medical and behavioral health issues which perpetuate cycles of arrest and incarceration.

The National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies (NAPSA), in conjunction with the Public Welfare Foundation and the Crime and Justice Institute, created a case study to describe the work in Cook County (encompassing Chicago, Illinois) to assist individuals detained  at the county jail to apply for healthcare coverage, in order to access health services in the community.
